Outreach

Outreach at St. Mary's Episcopal Church

Church Without Walls. We practice a ministry of presence with our brothers and sisters wherever they are, with a special focus on those who most often are overlooked, forgotten or rejected. Outdoor Worship every Sunday at St. John's Cathedral in the Dean's Garden at 1:00pm.

Food Pantry. Our food pantry ministry provides space for an active and loving presence, touching individuals and families who, for whatever reason, find themselves without enough food to eat. Click here to learn more.

Learning Center. Fall schedule is being formed and will be posted soon.

Organic Garden. We grow food for our pantry and offer a demonstration garden and instruction for our neighbors.

Christmas Ministry.  Each year St. Mary’s volunteers, in partnership with local churches and other groups, organize a special program where families in need may shop and volunteer, and children may experience the joys and wonder of Christmas.  This has come to be a high point of the year for our volunteers and those who participate.  For information on volunteering or being a recipient family, contact clergy or staff.

Residential Ministry. St. Mary’s is launching a new program for ministers in residence. These individuals will live in community on our campus, participate in the worship and service life of St. Mary’s and engage in outreach serving in other urban settings. Participants may include:

  • Lay persons discerning a call to ordained or lay urban ministry;
  • Seminarians taking a gap year in their studies or at the conclusion of study;
  • Clinical Pastoral Education students; or
  • Clergy discerning or called to urban ministry.

Those interested should contact our senior pastor, the Rev. Canon Beth Tjoflat at bethtjoflat@stmarysjax.org.
